Was toying with my roof basket fairing this week trying to come up with something to make it stand out. Finally got an idea from a friend at work, so I set out to make it happen. I laid down a coat of black on Thurday night, then sanded it and taped it off Friday after work.
While I was clear coating that I figured I should get my dash pieces cleared as well:
Let those dry over night, then got up early Saturday to put everything back together. Started by installing the dash pieces:
With those installed, I reinstalled the fairing, then lifted my basket into place:
After gauging whether I liked it or not, I decided I did and added the pinstripe to match the van, then went and grabbed a few more pics:
Then we loaded up and went in to the farmer’s market with a friend of ours. After that we dropped the kids off for a while and enjoyed the afternoon. Chilled at Wollersheim winery/distillery
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Then we headed over to Vintage Brewing for supper:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
After a great dinner, we went for a walk on the River trail, then headed home to pick up the kids.
Had a lazy day yesterday, just did some quick grocery shopping and watched some movies.
All in all, a great weekend.
Now I just have to get my new snorkel modified so I can get that on and she’s all done outside until I can find some sliders.

does the painted dash give off many reflections in the screen?

You are not helping me tolerate my sea of VW van 90s grey...
When does your ride-on get the same sort of love?

Not that I’ve noticed thus far.

Friend of mine airbrushed it. He was going to do the fairing as well, but it wasn’t drying so I ended up stripping it.

Ride-on is a common nickname for them up here where I am as well!

Thanks to RallyDarkstrike for the clear up on “ride-on”.
I doubt I’ll ever do anything with it. It’s been getting limped along for the last 3 years now. 2 tires leak, it burns oil, and the steering gear needs to be replaced yearly, but the old girl always runs and does a great job cutting the yard. I kinda figure if I start sticking money into it now, it will just go to hell, so I just do the bare minimum and keep running it.
When it dies I’ll break down and buy a new one, messing with small engines isn’t my thing.

Nicely done. And m y wife loves Wollersheim, I still need to get my hands on a bottle of their cognac though, every time we’ve been there they are out of stock of it.

Wow, whatta cool ENGINE STAND! I have an engine stand. It holds engines. Mine’s orange, though. Looks like you’re going to have to repaint your engine stand.
(That Oppo thing where you post about one thing, and folks obsess about something else.)
I do have an engine stand project I’ll be doing later this summer and I’ll have to do a bit of welding, which I’ve only done once or twice ; stay tuned!
I admire your painting skills.

We should really get a ride-on for our yard as well...it’s pretty large...not ACRES or anything, but it takes about 2 hours to do the front side with a self-propelled push-mower and about an 1-1.5 hours to do the back half....a ride-on would be REALLY nice...

I’m always on the lookout for another 95 Voyager Sport Wagon and an 89 ES Turbo.
We had a 95 Sport Wagon for a long while that I ended up trading for my 66 Electra. Now that the E le ctra is long since gone, I wish I never would have sold the Sport wagon.

It takes me about 1.5 hrs to do my yard with the 42" deck rider.

It’s super nice, pretty sure it’s just an old Harbor Freight unit.
Capable of 1000 lbs, can rotate, holds engines and parts for painting.

I tried their Coquard Brandy, I thought it was decent, not sure it’s worth the money, but was easy drinking in an Old Fashion.
I also tried their “Red Corn” Whiskey, it was literally the only time I have ever left 1/2 a glass of whiskey. That stuff made Old Thompson taste like top shelf booze.
Otherwise it was a nice time, the grounds are gorgeous and I liked the ability to wander pretty much uninhibited.

That is some crazy craftsmanship right there :D

I haven’t been there for a few years, I didn’t know they were making whiskey, sounds like I’ll pass on that though next time we go.

At some point I’m going to have to get your tips for such good results with at-home painting. Unlike in the past, I don’t really have space to build a pseudo paint booth here.

I just use a regular garage in most cases, simply plastic over what you don’t want over sprayed.
Don’t be afraid to hit me up if you need tips, I’m always willing to lend advice.
